Going into the new academic year, we would like to present the SIMConnect Board for 2020/21. Firstly, let us introduce ourselves: We are Marlene Lechner, the president, and Philipp Kaltenböck, the vice president and treasurer. Together we are leading SIMConnect for the upcoming year.

Below, our new department heads from Intake 2020 are shortly introducing themselves and provide a short overview of the plans they have for the next months:

Partners & Alumni Department

We are Sissi and Daniel, both from Vienna and graduates from WU. As the new heads we are responsible for building and maintaining meaningful relationships with our corporate partners and former SIMC students. Every semester we organize four workshops for our SIMCies and also involve our alumni, for which we are currently on COVID-friendly solutions. After an exciting first workshop with i5innvest, we are happy to anounce our second workshop - this time with BCG. The workshop will be a virtual skills training and take place on the 20th of November.

Next to our workshops we also have a completely new idea - the three generation program - stay tuned for more information to come! Another highlight of this year will be the company trip, which hopefully can take place in Amsterdam during the summer semester. Contact us at: partners@simc.at

Get2Gether & Sports Department

Jeli and Nina, 2020 Intake's competitive equestrian vaulter and basketball player, are currently heading the G2G&S department and working on making events more multifaceted. Although this year will be for sure challenging in terms of organizing events, we still want to make the best out of it to foster the SIMC spirit. Therefore, we have planned a virtual wine tasting event to replace the running dinner and other virtual events including Online Poker Sessions, a Virtual Escape Room and many more. The famous SIMC Christmas Party will be either held in a smaller, yet physically, setting in case the situation allows it or in even smaller groups which will cook a Christmas dinner at home while being provided by a “SIMC cooking box”.

Communications Department

We are Sean and Adriana, your heads of communications and faces behind all the social media channels, including this newsletter ;) Next to keeping you up-to-date for the next two semesters we are also excited about designing the SIMC merch and organizing another round of StudentTalks, which is scheduled to take place in spring. Make sure to follow us on our social media channels to not miss the newest gossip and information!

Social Responsibility Department

The Social Responsibility Department is a newly found department with us: Adelaide from France and Nida from Tyrol as the first co-heads. The focus is on raising awareness on both sustainable and social issues. Our main goal is to help students see that small adjustments can have a big impact to our everyday lives. Regarding our events, it is definitely going to be very challenging due to the current Corona restrictions. However, we plan on participating in an international thinkathon which is funded by the European Union with universities joining from all over the world. Furthermore, we are in the process of organising a workshop together with NGOs. Additionally, some of the events we would like to pursue are closet sales, charity events, keynote speakers and panel discussions, clean-up initiatives and a collaborative event with NIMS.

Entrepreneurship Avenue

We are this year’s head organisers of the Entrepreneurship Avenue - Florian Pircher from Italy and Ekaterina Zueva from Russia. We both have experience in event management and are thrilled to organize such a large event as the Avenue. The Entrepreneurship Avenue 2021 will take place in spring and we plan to hold the event in a hybrid mode (both offline and online simultaneously) and hope to internationalize the Avenue even more! The preparations for EA 21 have already started so follow us on social media to stay tuned.

NIMS

We are this year's NIMS heads: Julian, from Germany and Michael, originally from Italy. We both love cultural exchange, that is why we chose to be part of the SIMC community and NIMS. As you know NIMS is an international student network with the focus on innovation & strategy, consists of students from 5 top-tier business schools, and is devoted to foster the exchange of cultures and innovative ideas. Our goals for this year are to improve the link between members and alumni, to expand our network and build a stronger brand image. We definitely also want to work on a closer interaction between NIMS and SIMC.

We know that this is going to be a challenging year as many of our former activities cannot take place this year as they used to. However, we assure you that ourSIMConnect departments are working hard to find alternatives and create an amazing and unforgettable time nevertheless! We are all very happy to receive any questions, suggestions, support, ideas or feedback you might have. Do no thesitate to contact us.
